The Project
The North-Eastern Program Alliance (NEPA) has been established by Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) to carry out a program of works to remove level crossings at Grange Road, Alphington, and Lower Plenty Road, Rosanna, as well as the Hurstbridge corridor upgrades including duplication of single line track between Heidelberg and Rosanna involving a 70m long tunnel duplication at Darebin Street. The Alliance comprises LXRA, Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), Laing O’Rourke/ Fulton Hogan JV, and Jacobs with Tunnelling Solutions and NOMA Consulting engaged as specialist sub-contractors for the design and construction of the underpass and associated works.
Key Aspects of the Project
- North and south portal retaining walls
- 6.9m wide span, mined tunnel using top heading and bench
- Shallow cover underneath active roadway
- Tunnel duplication adjacent to existing, heritage brick vaulted tunnel
- Track duplication between Heidelberg and Rosanna Stations
- New Rosanna Station re-development.
Scope of Works
NOMA Consulting was engage by Tunnelling Solutions to carry out the following:
- Portal retaining wall designs with adjacent headwalls
- Canopy tube and spiling bar array design
- Temporary works design of shotcrete lining and elephant footings
- Canopy tube and spiling bar array design
- Permanent works design of underpass tunnel lining and steel rib support
- Instrumentation and monitoring design
- Construction support to address construction related issues and design modifications.
